Lesotho Youth Entrepreneurships Awarded at the Chinese Embassy

On 13 June 2018, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China held the Awarding ceremony of the Lesotho Youth Entrepreneurship 2018. H. E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Ambassador of China to Lesotho, Mr. Song Changqing, Political Counsellor of the Embassy, Hon. Lesego Makgothi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. Motlohi Maliehe, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture, Hon. Mahala Molapo, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Rethabile Rarumo, Deputy Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mr. Lerata Pekane, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Small Business, Cooperatives and Marketing, winners of the award and representatives from the media attended the occasion.

Aimed at empowering young Basotho entrepreneurs to achieve further development, the initiative receives well and wide responses and participations. After thorough evaluations, 6 practitioners respectively in businesses of fashion design, vineyard, vegetable planting, electronic services and dairy food were identified as the winners of the award. The winners made presentations on their businesses and visions for development, and received certificates of the award from Ambassador Sun and Hon. Makgothi at the occasion.

Ambassador Sun extended warm congratulations to the winners and indicated that both governments of China and Lesotho attach great importance to the youth entrepreneurship and the development of the small and micro enterprises (SME). The SMEs make significant contributions to the economical and social development by creating jobs and making innovations. The Embassy would like to continuously work together with the Lesotho side under the framework of FOCAC and expand cooperation in this regard.

Hon. Makgothi conveyed appreciations to the Embassy for the initiative. The Hon. pointed out that the award will inspire more entrepreneurship from young Basotho. He urged the winners to take full advantage of the award and contribute to the national development by expanding their businesses.
