The Chinese Embassy and Lesotho Government held Signing Ceremony of the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho

On 15March 2018, H.E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Ambassador of China to Lesotho, attended the signing ceremony of the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho and signed the Agreement with Hon. LesegoMakgothi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations on behalf of the two Governments.Roughly 30 people attended the ceremony, including the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. HalebonoeSets'abi, Principal Secretaries, directors of different departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development Planning as well as journalists from the local media.

The Government of People's Republic of Chinawould provide a grant to the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho for the Construction of the Maseru District Hospital and Eye Clinic Project under above-mentioned Agreement.

In his remarks, Ambassador Sun indicated that this was the second grantprovided by the Government of People's Republic of China to the Government of the Kingdom of Lesothosince the first grant provided on 18 December, 2017. Once built, the hospital project will significantly promote the medical services in Lesotho and bring tangible benefits to Basotho. Furthermore, the other three priority projects, including Ha Mpiti - Sehlabathebe Road, Mafeteng 70MW Solar Power Plant and Hlotse Multi-Purpose Damare also inadvanced stages in the consultations between the two sides. The implementation of above-mentioned projectswill have important strategic significance for the social and economic development of the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Hon. MinisterLesegoMakgothi indicated in his remarks that the two grants provided bythe Government of People's Republic of China within past three months shows that China attaches great importance to and support of the Lesotho Government's efforts in developing economy and bettering people's lives.He also extended gratitude to China for the generous assistance.Hon. MinisterLesegoMakgothiexpressed warm congratulations on the convening of annual session ofthe National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and emphasized the Government and People of the Kingdom of Lesotho will unswervingly support the "One-China policy", and strongly believe that China will realize complete reunification of their territories.
