Charge d'affaires ad interim of the the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho Mr. Song Changqing Held Farewell & Welcome Reception for the Chinese Medical Teams

   Charge d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr. Song Changqing held Farewell & Welcome Reception for the Chinese Medical Teams on 15 October 2018. Roughly 80 guests attended the reception, including Hon. Nkaku Kabi, Minister of Health, Hon. 'Matebatso Doti,Minister of Social Development, Hon. 'Manthabiseng Phohleli, Deputy Minister of Health, Principal Secretaries, directors of different departments, journalists, representatives of Chinese Communities and companies in Lesotho, and all members of 12th and 13th Chinese Medical Teams to Lesotho.
     Mr. Song spoke highly of the excellent works by the 12th team and welcomed the 13th team. Mr. Song indicated that, since 1996, the cooperation and friendship in the public health service between China and Lesotho has never stopped. The Medical Teams have made great contribution for enhancing the bilateral friendship between the two countries. In addition to sending Medical Team, China also provided training opportunities for 60 Basotho doctors and nurses and agreed to donate more than 900 million Maloti grant to build the Maseru District Hospital, which will be another landmark project of cooperation between the countries. The recently concluded Beijing Summit of the FOCAC is a new historical opportunity for the development of bilateral relations between China and Lesotho. Let us seize the opportunity and work closely to implement the outcome of the Beijing Summit, and to ensure Basotho continues to benefit from FOCAC.
    Hon. Nkaku Kabi, Minister of Health, expressed great thanks to the 12th Chinese medical teams for their dedication and their great contributions to improving the level of public health service in Lesotho and highlighted that the ministry of health will provide comprehensive support for the 13th medical team. Hon. Nkaku Kabi also expressed his gratitude for Chinese Government's selfless assistance to Lesotho in the field of health sector and hoped the two countries could cooperate more in future.
    Dr. Xu Xunhua, team leader of the 12th Chinese Medical Team, presented a work report. In cooperation with the local medical staff of the Metebang Hospital, the Chinese Medical Team has completed over 1000 operations, treated about 20,000 patients, and conducted 4 large-scale medical tours in the mountain area. The above-mentioned works rescued thousands of Basotho from illness and deaths. Dr. Li Jin, team leader of the 13th Chinese Medical Team, committed themselves to carry forward the Chinese Medical Teams Spirit and complete their mission with due contribution.
