Li Keqiang Arrives in Manila for His Attendance at the Series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation and Official Visit to the Philippines

On the afternoon of November 12, 2017 local time, at the invitation of President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, the rotating presidency of the ASEAN, Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Manila by special plane to attend the 20th China-ASEAN (10+1) Summit, the 20th ASEAN-China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (10+3) Summit and the 12th East Asia Summit to be held here from November 12 to 14. After attending those summits, Li Keqiang will start his official visit to the Philippines.

Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and other senior government officials of the Philippines, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Xu Bu and others greeted Li Keqiang at the airport.

Li Keqiang expressed that this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN as well as the 20th anniversary of the launching of 10+3 cooperation. At present, the region has maintained stability, cooperation and development, which is a stable growth pole of the global economy as the world economy is going through weak recovery, and also injects stable strength into the complex and changeable world situation. The Chinese side stands ready to, together with various parties, plan for the future at the new starting point of the ASEAN, unite and cooperate with one another, so as to foster a closer community of common interests and common destiny with neighboring countries.

Li Keqiang pointed out that currently, China-Philippines relations have maintained a sound and stable development momentum, which conforms to the common interests and expectation of the two peoples as well as people in the region. I am willing to, together with leaders of the Philippines, exchange views on further consolidating friendship, and deepen cooperation in areas that suit the development needs of both sides, in a bid to consolidate the foundation for China-Philippines long-term good-neighbourliness and friendliness.

During his attendance at the summits, Li Keqiang will jointly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN with leaders of ASEAN countries, attend the leaders' meeting of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and hold bilateral meetings with attending leaders of some countries.

During his visit in the Philippines, Li Keqiang will hold talks with President Rodrigo Duterte, witness the signing of bilateral cooperation documents, jointly meet the press and attend the foundation stone laying and commencement ceremony of bilateral cooperation projects. Li Keqiang will also meet with Senate President Aquilino Pimentel, Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez and other political heavyweights of the Philippines.
