On December 13, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang sent a message to Bill English, congratulating him on his assumption of office as Prime Minister of the New Zealand government.
Li Keqiang said in the message that as important countries in the Asia-Pacific region, China and New Zealand share extensive common interests. In recent years, China and New Zealand have enjoyed sound development in bilateral relations and achieved fruitful outcomes from cooperation in various fields, which bring tangible benefits to the two peoples. Next year will mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-New Zealand diplomatic relationship. I hope to make joint efforts with Mr. Prime Minister to continuously stick to the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and extend friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in all areas in a bid to elevate China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership to new highs.
