| Wu Bangguo and Jia Qinglin Meet with President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Respectively |

| On September 21, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Chairman Jia Qinglin of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) met with Lucien Weiler, president of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg respectively. Wu Bangguo said that although China and Luxembourg have different national conditions, with the joint efforts of both sides the bilateral relations maintain a sound momentum of development, the political mutual trust keeps growing, the bilateral cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, culture and education gets increasingly deepened and the mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of finance, iron and steel and satellite enjoys great potential. To develop China-Luxembourg relations complies with the common interest of both sides and is conducive to the in-depth advancement of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. He noted that the NPC of China attaches importance to promoting the friendly relations with the Luxembourg parliament and expects to further strengthen the exchanges of leaders and ad hoc committees of the two countries at various levels and in the fields of legislature and supervision as well. Jia Qinglin said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Luxembourg the bilateral relations have been progressing steadily. From January to July this year the bilateral trade volume has reached US$1.05 billion which equals the total bilateral trade volume in 2004. China admires that the Luxembourg government pursues the one-China policy and hopes Luxembourg continues to play an important role within the EU to promote the steady development of China-EU relations. He added that the CPPCC values its relations with the Luxembourg parliament and is ready to strengthen the mutual high-level visits and parliamentary exchanges and inject new energy into the bilateral ties. Weiler noted that Luxembourg takes China as in indispensable partner in the international affairs and is willing to strengthen the bilateral parliamentary exchanges, promote bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade areas and push for the all-round progress of Luxembourg-China relations. He said that Luxembourg will continue adhering to the one-China policy and making efforts towards EU's lift of arms embargo on China. |
