On July 20, 2005, Vice Minister Zhang Yesui met with the delegation headed by Rihards Piks, Member of the European Parliament with Latvian origin, who is visiting China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Zhang made positive remarks over the development of China-Latvia and China-EU relations, indicating China gives priority to developing relations with Latvia and the EU and would like to enhance exchanges and cooperation with them. Piks expressed his admiration for China's achievements since reform and opening up, reiterating that Latvia will continue to adhere to the one-China policy and that he will make active efforts to promote Latvia-China and EU-China relations.
