Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho Sun Xianghua Held Farewell Reception for End of Tenure

On 15 September 2018, H.E. Dr. Ambassador Sun Xianghua held a farewell reception for the completion of his tenure as the Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Lesotho. Mr. Song Changqing, the Political Counsellor and Mr. Ma Guoliang, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, the representatives of the Chinese Community, Hon. Mamonaheng Mokitimi, the President of Senate, Hon. Sephiri Enoch Motanyane, the Speaker and his deputy Hon. Teboho Lehloenya, Hon. Lesego Makgothi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. Samonyane Ntsekele, Minister of Water, Hon. Dr. Moeketsi Majoro, Minister of Finance, Hon. Mampho Mokhele, Minister of Police and Public Safety, Hon. Tlohelang Aumane, Minister of Development Planning, Hon. Manthabiseng Phohleli, Deputy Minister of Health, Principal Secretaries and other senior officials of the Government of Lesotho, Members of Parliament, Heads of the diplomatic corps in Lesotho and the main stream media attended the reception.

Ambassador Sun extended sincere appreciations to the government and people of Lesotho for their supports and friendship toward him. He commended the remarkable development of the China-Lesotho relations in recent years, pointing out that with joint efforts of both sides, a number of major projects including the Maseru District Hospital and Eye Clinic, the Ha Mphiti-Sehlathebe Road, etc., were initiated with a view to implement the outcomes of Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC. He indicated that the Right Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Thabane had just attended the Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and paid a successful official visit to China recently. During the visit, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister met with H.E. President Xi Jinping and H.E. Premier Li Keqiang, and exchanged in-depth ideas on deepening China-Lesotho friendship and cooperation. Ambassador Sun expressed firm belief that the bilateral relations will witness new further developments, bringing more tangible benefits to both countries and peoples, and making contribution to building an even stronger community of China and Africa with a shared future.

Hon. Foreign Minister Makgothi extended on behalf of the Lesotho government congratulations to Ambassador Sun for completing his tenure in Lesotho with great success, and sincere appreciation and tribute for his endeavor in boosting China-Lesotho friendship. The Hon. indicated that the 3-year tenure of Ambassador Sun witnessed remarkable development of China-Lesotho relations and abundant achievements of practical cooperation, which have laid solid foundation for the future bilateral relations. He spoke highly of the attendance of the FOCAC Beijing Summit by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Thabane as well as his historical official visit to China. Hon. Makgothi said that the FOCAC has become a beacon of hope for Africa predicated on the spirit of south-south cooperation and mutual benefit, and China-Africa Cooperation has become the most powerful locomotive for Africa's development and rejuvenation. Lesotho fully endorses the historical outcomes of the Beijing Summit, and is looking forward to working together with China in building an even closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

Ambassador Sun departed Lesotho for China on 16 September and was seen off by Hon. Makgothi among other Lesotho officials at the airport.
