Charge d'Affairs Counsellor Song Changqing attended 1st Voice of Friendship Chinese Song Competition

On 23 June 2018, Counsellor Song Changqing, Charge d'Affairs ad interim of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China attended the 1st Voice of Friendship Chinese Song Competition organized by the Lesotho Confucius Classroom. Mr. Barry Sole, Headmaster of the Machabeng Colleague where the Confucius Classroom is instituted, Mr. Thatho and Mr. Yu Ji, the Basotho and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Classroom, competitors as well as faculties and students of the Machabeng colleague were also present at the occasion.

In his opening remarks, Charge d'Affairs Mr. Song extended congratulations to the competition for making another '1st' in Chinese language education in Lesotho. He pointed out that the competition is not only a testimony of the rising fever for Chinese language among Basotho, but also a testimony of the close bilateral relations between China and Lesotho, especially the ever-increasing people-to-people exchanges. Mr. Song believed that learning and enjoying Chinese songs and music will open for Basotho friends another door to the culture, people and civilization of China, and encouraged the students and competitors to do their best in learning Chinese and serve as envoys of China-Lesotho friendship in the future.

Mr. Sole spoke highly of the Confucius Classroom, commending its contributions to the people to people exchanges between China and Lesotho as well as the development of education in Lesotho. Mr. Sole urged the students to learn Chinese well to broaden their horizons and make contributions to the development of China-Lesotho relations and their own country.

14 competitors won warm applauses from the audience with their singing and expression of love for Chinese language and culture. Charge d'Affairs Mr. Song awarded trophies to the winners together with directors of the Confucius Classroom.
