Signing Ceremony of the Protocol Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho on Sending the 12nd Chinese Medical Team to Work in Lesotho

On 29 September 2017, H.E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Ambassador of China, representing the government of the People's Republic of China signed the protocol on sending the 12nd Chinese medical team to work in Lesotho with Hon. Nyapane Kaya, the Minster of Health, representing the government of Lesotho. Mr. Ma Guoliang, Commercial and Economic Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Hon. 'Manthabiseng Phohleli, Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Monaphathi Makara, the Principal Secretary of Health, officials from the Ministry as well as journalists were also present at the ceremony.

                                                 

Ambassador Sun indicated in his remarks that the China-Lesotho cooperation in health sector was vast and deep. In the last 21 years, the Chinese government has sent 11 medical teams to Lesotho, donated multiple medical devices and medicines, rendered health service to more than half a million Basotho, and trained many medical personnel. He emphasized that with the deepened of China-Lesotho friendship, the two countries' cooperation in public health sector will make new and bigger achievements in the future.

                                                  

Hon. Kaya expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its assistance and support to Lesotho's health sector. He commented that, for many years, the Chinese people and government had generously provided Lesotho with precious medical resources to treat patients and improve the national health condition. He said, the Lesotho people and government warmly welcomed the arrival of the new medical team, and were ready to do their best to ensure smooth work and life of the medical team in Lesotho.
