Chinese Art Troupe Performed in Celebration of 51st Anniversary of Independence of Lesotho

On 30th September and 1st October 2017, at the invitation of the government of Lesotho, the Chinese Art Troupe Wind of China, Song of Joy from Ningxia province staged two splendid shows in Maseru, capital of Lesotho, in celebration of the 51st Anniversary of the Independence of Lesotho. More than 1000 audiences, including Ambassador of P. R. China to Lesotho H. E. Dr. Sun Xianghua,, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Song Changqing, and Commercial and Economic counselor Mr. Ma Guoliang, Head of the art troupe and General Manager of the Ningxia Performing Arts Group Co. Ltd. Mr. Fan Jinguo, Their Majesties King Letsie III and Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso, Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princesses, former Prime Minister of Lesotho Hon. Pakalitha Mosisili, former Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Lekhola, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture Hon. Mamotsie Motsie, Minister of Labour and Employment Hon. Keketso Rantso, Minister of Social Development Hon. Matebatso Doti, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Hon. Mahala Molapo, Minister of Defense and National Security Hon. Sentje Lebona, Minister of Police and Public Safety Hon. Mampho Mokhele, Minister of Law and Constitutional Affairs Hon. Lebohang Hlaele, as well as other Hon. Cabinet Ministers, Acting Commander of LDF, Government Secretary, Principal Secretaries and governmental officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Chinese Community and Companies as well as guests from all walks of life were present at the shows.

       Ambassador Sun Xianghua addressed the two shows respectively. He commended the unyielding struggle against colonialism by the diligent and courageous Basotho people and extended warm congratulations to Lesotho on the 51st anniversary of independence. Ambassador Sun indicated that although separated by vast mountains and oceans, China and Lesotho both as developing countries shared common historical experiences and maintained traditional friendship. China and Lesotho have maintained close exchanges in cultural sector and other areas in recent years, and the visit by Ningxia art troupe in celebration of the 51st Anniversary of Lesotho Independence is another embodiment of the friendly feelings of the Chinese government and people towards Lesotho. Ambassador Sun shed his strong faith that the friendship between the two countries and people will usher in a brighter future. Ambassador Sun also commended the Chinese Compatriots in Lesotho for promoting local economic and social development and encouraged them to contribute to the bilateral friendly relationship continuously.

       Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture Hon. Motsie extended appreciations to the Chinese government for dispatching the art troupe in celebration of the independence of Lesotho. She spoke highly of the bilateral amity and cultural exchanges and cooperation, expressed appreciation to China's supports and assistances toward Lesotho in cultural sector and other areas, and wished long-live friendship between China and Lesotho.

       The Art Troupe performed dances, acrobatics, Chinese traditional musical instruments, revealing a variety of Chinese art and culture and attracting enormous applause from the audience. After the shows, the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture held a welcoming reception for the art troupe.

       Apart from the shows, the Art Troupe also presented a demonstration session at Machabeng College, exposing to the local students face to face the Chinese art and culture. LTV, LENA, mainstream radios and newspapers of Lesotho reported on the visit and performances of the art troupe.
