In his speech, Ambassador Sun indicated that since the founding of the P. R. China 68 years ago and especially the adoption of the reforms and opening-up policy roughly 40 years ago, China has astonished the world by achieving rapid and remarkable developments. Today, China has become the largest trading country, the second-largest economy and FDI supplier in the world. China has made enormous progress in education, science and technology development. The average life expectancy of the Chinese has been constantly increased, while residents' income has risen remarkably and the quality of people's life has improved continuously.

Ambassador Sun attributed the above achievements to China's right path, theories and governance systems in unswervingly constructing a Chinese characterized socialism country under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC 5 years ago, the Chinese people, led by the CPC with H. E. President Xi Jinping as the core of the leadership, have adamantly consolidated their confidences in the Chinese Path, Theories, Systems and Culture, spared no efforts in implementing all the measures in comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society, comprehensively deepening reforms, comprehensively implementing the rule of law and comprehensively governing the ruling party strictly. The successful implementation of this "4 comprehensives" has put China's development at a new starting point. On the 18th of October this year, the 19th National Congress of the CPC will be held in Beijing. Guided by this National Congress, the Chinese people will stand in closer solidarity with the central committee of the CPC with H. E. President Xi Jinping as the core of the leadership, and fulfill the national rejuvenation under a firmer pace.

Ambassador Sun pointed out that China's growth have also contributed to the whole world, by providing Chinese wisdom and scheme in promoting global governance to counter a series of challenges such as sluggish global economic recovery, increasing protectionism and populism, traditional and non-traditional security challenges. On many occasions such as the G20 Summit in China in 2016, the "Belt and Road Initiative" International Cooperation Summit in May this year, and the recent BRICS Countries Summit in Xiamen, H.E. President Xi has repeatedly made this clarion call for building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind, calling for all countries to work together in building up a better future.

Ambassador Sun highlighted that although separated by vast seas and mountains, the Chinese and Basotho people stand in close solidarity due to their analogous status of developing countries, similar historical experiences and joint development visions. Based on equality and mutual respect, China and Lesotho have consistently promoted cooperation in all areas including infrastructure, agriculture, trade and commerce, education, culture, people to people relations, human resources, capacity building and etc., which have attained an unprecedented broadness and depth.

Ambassador Sun also commended the Chinese Compatriots in Lesotho who make livings abroad, but concern so much of their homeland. He praised the compatriots modeling a fine figure of Chinese people and contributing a lot in booming the China-Lesotho people to people friendship. Ambassador explicated his strong faith that with the joint efforts of the governments and peoples of both sides, the China-Lesotho friendship will make a fine example of relations between countries regardless of their sizes, wealth, and distance.

Hon. Lehana, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations and Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs, extended on behalf of the Government of Lesotho warm congratulations to the Chinese Government and people for the 68th National Day. The Hon. spoke highly of China's achievements since its founding and its increasingly critical role in the international affairs. He counted China's contributions and assistances to Lesotho in supporting the latter's economic and social development over the years, and thanked the Chinese government and the Chinese community in Lesotho in this regard. The Hon. hailed the persistent traditional friendship between China and Lesotho, and valued China as the most significant development partner of Lesotho, who had maintained synergic cooperation with Lesotho in all fields. He shed confidence that driven by the momentum of materializing President Xi's "One Belt, One Road" initiative and by strengthening BRICS cooperation as well as south-south cooperation and etc., the China-Lesotho relations will score further remarkable developments. The Hon. emphasized at last that Lesotho firmly adheres to the one-china policy and strongly believes that the great China will definitely fulfill reunification.
