First Confucius Classroom in Lesotho Unveiled at Machabeng College

On 25 April 2017, the first Confucius Classroom in Lesotho was officially inaugurated at Machabeng College. H.E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Ambassador of China to Lesotho, Her Majesty Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso, Hon. Motlalentoa Letsosa, Minister of Education of Lesotho, Mr. Shi Yanlai, head of Delegation from Jilin Provincial Department of Education of China, Mr. Li Yamin, Deputy Principal of Changchun Municipal Experimental High School, Headmaster Mr. Mashome Ramodube and board members of Machabeng College, government officials, teachers and students, representatives from Chinese community in Lesotho, and local media journalists attended the ceremony.

 

The Confucius Classroom is a local branch of the well-known Chinese language and culture learning network across the world. It is a cooperation project between Changchun Municipal Experimental High School and the Machabeng College. At the ceremony, Ambassador Sun announced the official establishment of the Confucius Classroom and joined H.M. the Queen to unveil its nameplate in warm applauds,  cheers and whistles across the College.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Sun congratulated the Classroom and wished it a remarkable success with support from both sides. He introduced the great thought and experience of Confucius as an educationalist, and pointed out that Confucius as an great, ancient thinker of China, also belongs to the world and the modern times. He said China was doing its best in helping Lesotho with its development and our two peoples had never been so close to each other. He hoped that more Basotho will grow interest in learning Chinese, make full use of the Classroom and become envoys of friendship between the two peoples.

 

Hon. Letsosa appreciated the cooperation from the Chinese government and the Experimental High School. He said since Moshoeshoe I, Lesotho welcomed foreign culture to Lesotho, which promoted the development of Lesotho Culture. Teaching Chinese in Lesotho would also promote the education in Lesotho. The Ministry would continue supporting and encouraging the development of the Classroom.

 

Mr. Shi, on behalf of the Jilin Provincial Department of Education, wished that the Classroom would build up a bridge of cooperation. He introduced the strength of Jilin Province in education, agriculture and industry, and expected further cooperation and exchanges with the Lesotho side.

 

Mr. Li and Mr. Ramotube as well as the representative of the College board delivered their speeches respectively. They thanked both governments for their support to the Classroom and committed to make it a success. They also expressed their commitment to extend exchanges and cooperation, promote teaching standard and contribute to bilateral friendship.
