2017/04/22

On 20 April 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho hosted a reception to award the winners of My China Stories competition, and to see off the 1st bilateral training course participants of 2017. H.E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Ambassador of China, Hon. Mamphono Khaketla, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Ms. Makhoabane Ledimo, Deputy Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Development Planning, government officials from relevant departments, authors of the booklet My China Stories 2017, participants of Seminar on Human Resource Development 2017 and friends from media attended the reception.

Last October, the Embassy started a China Stories writing competition and solicited stories from Basotho, which was well received by Lesotho people from all walks of life, from government officials to private sector employees, from the elderly to children, from those who have visited China to those who just have interactions with the Chinese in Lesotho. Their stories fully reflect the ever increasing exchanges and friendliness between the Chinese and Basotho. The Embassy carefully edited and compiled them into a booklet My China Story 2017.

Ambassador Sun and Hon. Khaketla together did the ribbon-cutting to announce the official launch of the book. Winners of the story competition were awarded with prizes and certificates.

In his speech, Ambassador Sun thanked all the authors for their contribution and extended congratulations to the winners. He poined out that, with the fruitful development of China-Lesotho relations and cooperation, many moving stories happened in the exchanges between the two peoples. These stories,if not told, may get lost in history. Through the competition, the Embassy intended to draw inspirations from the past experiences and encourage more people to promote China-Lesotho friendship and cooperation. He suggested the training course participants read this booklet and better prepare for their visit.

Hon. Khaketla extended congratulations on the launch of the booklet and to the winners of the competition, as well as the training course participants. She thanked China for her unwavering support to Lesotho, called the participants to cherish this opportunity, and also expected them to make full use of their training experiences for the development of Lesotho.

Representatives of the competition winners and the training course participants spoke respectively, appreciating China's cooperation and aid towards Lesotho and committing to make further contributions to the development of Lesotho-China relations.
