| Beijing Olympic Security Coordination Group takes stock of work in 2005 | |||

(BEIJING, Dec. 28) -- A list of Beijing's preparatory work on Olympic security has been revealed today at a press conference to mark the one year anniversary of the Beijing Olympic Security Coordination Group. Olympic security is a guarantee for a successful Olympiad and has drawn all attention from the Chinese government, said Ma Zhenchuan, member of Beijing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China, director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and deputy chief of the Beijing Olympic Security Coordination Group. Under the leadership of the central government, the group was established, Ma said. Over the year 2005, the group, along with member units, has set up an effective command system and worked out a detailed strategy of Olympic security. It has also recruited domestic and foreign security specialists, continued to build up security facilities for Olympic venues, broadened international exchange and cooperation, and completed the formulation of staff training program. Lv Shimin, deputy director of the public security bureau and director of BOCOG security department, briefed on priorities of the Olympic security plan on next year's agenda. These include: -- continue to build up an efficient, centralized, and consistent commanding mechanism; -- modify the general plan of the Olympic security; -- enhance international exchange and cooperation; -- carry out the training and education program in full scale for the security staff; and -- increase the awareness of the security issue among the public. Deputy director of the public security bureau Zhang Weihua and Yu Hongyuan dwelt on some other issues of public concern at the conference.
